Can’t I just get an epoxy kit and do it myself to save money?
You could, but you definitely won’t get the same long-lasting results. Most DIY epoxy kits are 85% solid. That means that 15% of the volume will evaporate during the installation process. The first coat we apply to your garage floor is 100% solid epoxy. This means it goes on thicker, therefore requiring more of the epoxy mixture per square foot. It does cost more, but your floor will be much more durable and last longer than if you use a DIY kit, paint or other flooring treatment kits.
What's the actual process for applying the epoxy?
The first part of the process is to diamond grind the floor to a SP3 finish. We use a 600 LB grinder with a large industrial hepa vacuum that will capture any dust during the process. This same equipment is used commercially to refinish concrete in retail giants like Walmart and Target.
The first coat is 100% solid epoxy. Epoxy is a two part chemical that when mixed forms a new compound that hardens stronger than concrete. It will fill the pores created by the grinding process and create a permanent bond.
The base coat is saturated in paint flakes to provide depth and prevent the surface from becoming slippery.
Once the epoxy hardens any loose chips are scraped up and a topcoat of polyaspartic is applied. Polyaspartic is thick, non-yellowing, and UV resistant.
Can I use the garage immediately?
You will be able to walk on the floor the day after installation, but keep heavy items, such as refrigerators, toolboxes and cars off the floor for two to three days until the floor is fully cured.
Is commercial-grade epoxy really necessary for my garage floor?
Other epoxy jobs, such as 85 solid (ours is 100) means that 15% of the volume will evaporate during installation. The solid percentage is important when comparing products. This may seem like a small difference but the difference is the viscosity and thickness. 100% solid is applied 120 sq ft per gallon, 85% solid can be spread to 250 sq ft per gallon. So 100% epoxy requires significantly more material per square foot which is why it’s more expensive and durable compared with DIY kits, paint or other flooring kits.
Is my floor under a warranty?
Yes. We stand behind our product and guarantee our epoxy flooring against failing or fading for 10 years. This is much longer than the average epoxy warranty which is only one year.
